It’s a cliche, but I still love taking photos of abandoned places. I imagine it’s similar to how people feel when they go to ancient ruins, but because the places I go are typically more recently abandoned, I can actually imagine them in use. And, because they’re some combination of less glamorous/more dangerous/of questionable legality, they’re usually far less traveled. Lastly, they’re often only briefly around. Some abandoned places have been around for a while, but there’s a sweet spot for the best ones; a place usually isn’t too interesting right after it’s shut down, but after too long, they tend to get renovated or demolished. Walking around these places makes very clear that all the places we know and use right now will soon be like them too.
